I think an example of, in the West, succumbing to our own thought is the death of God, Nietzsche was right, we’ve killed Him. Refusing to allow Christ to rescue us from our mythical constructs and philosophies has ultimately led to His demise. <br /><br />All too often people construct a virtual reality—maybe we can refer to the Baudrillardian hyperreal…?—to bring some kind of coherence to their seemingly random and meaningless experiences. The individual becomes the one to attend to and order things; they become the creator of their own universe. This is, of course, a perversion of the priestly role of man. I like how you said, there came a man “living in an ancient and tradition encrusted culture”, and He did “not contribute to the growing body of myth…Myth has no place in Him.” Wonderfully said! Let us pray that He shines light into our well-guarded tombs where the arid bones of our myths lie.
